August 2012

Utah Visit
In August my mom so graciously flew Bailey and I into to Utah for a little vacation with the girls! We packed our week full of fun times with Allie, Owen, Aubrey, Grandma, and sometimes even Grandpa! I even managed an evening with the Thompsons in there.

First off was the Children's Museum at the Gateway. These kids sure had a blast! There was so much to do with the floating balls, musical instruments, and then there's the "toddler" play area with construction toys, a playhouse, farm, grocery store, water table, cars, and lots more! Bailey mostly stayed in the play house, and Owen played in the construction and cars. I guess they found their niches already! Little Aubrey enjoyed the view from the baby area and Grandma settled everyone down with books before lunchtime. We had so much fun in the toddler area that we didn't even have time to go up to the other two floors. Afterward we had lunch at the food court and let the kids ride some arcade toys.

Hogle Zoo
A trip to Utah wouldn't be the same without a trip to the zoo. This time around was extra fun cause the kids were even more into animals and they had some new exhibits!

Bailey was pretty much obsessed with elephants ever since the Circus in July. The entire drive to the zoo she had a meltdown and kept saying "Not the zoo, circus!" because that's the only place she thinks there are elephants!  She even carried around a little plastic elephant toy with her everywhere at the zoo. So needless to say, she was super excited to see the elephants.

After the elephants we found the rhinos and monkeys

Then onto the new exhibits - the polar bear, seals, and grizzly bears. The polar bear was probably the highlight of the zoo, he was so social and really played it up with the people. He would swim up to the window, look at the people, push off the glass and swim backwards, then go under and back up to the window and repeat it over and over again! The kids loved him.

Lunch was next and a few more animals - giraffes and tigers, then it was ice cream time and the train ride. The train ride was the last thing we did and I just about didn't make it back to the top of the hill! It was too hot to be as pregnant as I was and walking up a hill. My feet swelled up nice and big that night!

Wicked
The first talk of a trip to Utah was in May when I saw an ad in the paper that Wicked was coming to Salt Lake City. I told my mom how fun it would be for all the girls to go and that's just what we did! My mom found us awesome seats, she was on the 2nd row, Allie was on the 3rd and I was on the 5th. She bought my ticket for my birthday present, one of the presents ever! That show is seriously amazing, I think I deemed it my favorite broadway show!!!

I should also mention that Grandpa was left home alone with all three kids. What a night for him! One of them was crying at any given moment. He finally got Owen and Aubrey to bed and Bailey stayed up till we got home and finally went to bed at about midnight.

................

City Creek
On another day during our trip we spent the morning at the new City Creek outdoor mall. We went to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch and made sure we made a stop in the Disney Store. The kids were pretty much in Heaven there! My mom let the kids choose a toy to bring home, Owen chose some cars from the Cars movie, and Bailey chose a Dumbo stuffed animal - of course!!! She's obsessed with elephants! As soon as she saw him she dropped Mickey and yelled "Dumbo!" and has never let go of him since.

To this day she carries Dumbo around with hereverywhere, sleeps with him, and I have to convince her to leave him at home when we go out. She will give him a hug and kiss goodbye and when we return home she runs to him and yells his name. He's even taken the place of bunny and snuggles - but she still sleeps with them too. It's a good thing I snapped some photos of him while he was "fresh" cause he's already gone through several washings and I have a feeling he'll look much different in the next few years!

...............

Fishing
Another highlight of our trip was the Ogden Fish Hatchery. My dad said on the way home how funny it is that even the adults would scream and laugh when we caught a fish. So true! Something about the excitement of getting a bite and trying to reel in that wiggly fish! Bailey and Owen sure enjoyed it and Owen even caught a fish all by himself! Everything is more fun with these two.

...............

Thompsons
Like I mentioned before, I was able to squeeze an evening with the Thompsons into our trip. We met at the Walsh farm like usual for Sunday dinner and then let the kids play. Bailey loved playing with girls running around on the open grass, and let's not forget rolling down the hill with Aunt Marcie!

...............

Other Fun
We had plenty of other fun times in Utah. We went a playground with a dinosaur that kids couldn't get enough of. Little Owen seriously woulnd't get off of it and when we let other kids have a turn, he quickly wanted them off so he could get on again. Silly boy!

Then there was the day we ran through the sprinklers. Bailey wouldn't go (and I forgot her swim suit), so I decided to jump on in with her! I'm such a cool mom huh!?! Running through the sprinklers pregnant and in my pajamas just so my daughter would do it too. It was actually really refreshing being 30 weeks pregnant and hot all the time, and a great memory too.

One day I made cookies with the kids, Owen was hillarious eating the dough off the beaters and sticking his fingers in the bowl saying, "Mmm, that's good!" Bailey just watched and somehow managed to get Aubrey's binki...again.

Then there was plenty of reading time with Grandma. Every night either Grandma or Grandpa read stories to the kids.

Patent Bar Exam
Mark took the Patent Bar Exam on the same day Bailey and I flew home from Utah. I was so nervous for him. He spent the majority of the summer studying about 10 hours a day for it, and no one that he knew from school had passed it! At about 5:00pm he called me with good news, he passed it!!! Talk about a proud moment, he was so happy and so was I! Passing this exam means that he can be a Patent Lawyer and his chances for getting a job after school is a lot higher...hopefully. I wanted to something for him and new it would be an hour and half drive home from Spokane, so I whipped him up a congratulations cake, which was just about the only food in the house.
Way to go Mark!!!

30 Weeks
Sometime in August I was 30 weeks pregnant. I felt pretty good, but starting to hit that tired 3rd trimester stage. I had enough energy to make to through our trip to Utah and then I crashed for a few days afterwards. My feet started to swell in Utah from all the walking and heat, and when I got home I had contractions in the middle of the night due to dehydration. I filled up on a water and everything went back to normal again. Here's my 30 week photo from my phone.

...............

Instagrams
Here's the rest of the month in Instagram mini's. Oh the fun we had this summer!

July 2012

July was a busy month as far as events and photos go! Independence Day always brings out the camera, it's one of my favorite holidays and I want to try to capture every moment. I love the parades, carnivals, food, heat, BBQs, fireworks, everything!

We started off our festivities a little early on the 3rd with some fireworks at Sunnyside Park with the Puffpaffs and Hendershots. Bailey loved the huge slide and playground toys, and of course the sparklers! She's just old enough to hold them and she was awe struck - Gavin and Ethan loved them too.

...............

Johnson Parade

There's only one parade in a 20 miles radius around here, and it's in a very small town with one street - Johnson, Washington. So we traveled 30 minutes to watch this parade and it was great! Plenty of candy and lots of old cars, and old people. I didn't know anyone in the parade or any of the groups, but I still liked it.

Here I'm sporting the "not fat, pregnant" look

...............

BBQ

After the parade and a little nap, it was time for a BBQ with friends. I made a yummy trifle - one of my favorite desserts, and chocolate covered pretzels. We all met at the Hayes' house, the kids got to play in the water and the adults all chatted away and ate a delicious BBQ dinner. I love spending the holidays with great friends, they become your family away from family.

Oh the water fun! These kids had a blast on the "water slide", well until poor little Paycen split his eyelid open :(

................

Fireworks

Shortly after the BBQ several families headed over to Sunnyside Park in Pullman, Washington for the carnival and fireworks show. Bailey got to play at the playground again on that HUGE slide. She was the smallest kid to go on it and kept going and going and cutting in line each time! Funny girl! All the other kids didn't seem to mind since she was so small. There were a lot of other activities going on and a band playing, such a great atmosphere. Then at dusk the fireworks started, Bailey was in awe again! I loved watching her experience all these "firsts" and can't wait for more.

Every year I try to get "good" photos of the fireworks, here's a little collage of this years

.............

Chestnut Beach

Sometime in July, a group of us girl friends took a trip down to Chestnut Beach in Clarkston, WA. I love that that all these fun things are relatively close to us in Moscow. We used to think the closest beach was in Coeur d'Alene, ID, but then we found this gem on the river! The kids had a great time playing in the sand and water and the girls had a great time just hanging out and talking.

...............

Raspberry Picking

Another great part of summer is all the fresh fruits and veggies that start to pop up. My friend, Courtney, has in-laws that have an awesome garden here in Moscow and she invited us to go raspberry picking there. A few of us met at the beautiful garden and picked until it was too hot to pick anymore! Afterwards I went home and had fresh raspberries on cereal for a few days then made freezer jam with the rest. They were delicious!
(these are all phone photos!)

...............

25 Weeks

During the beginning of July I was about 25 weeks pregnant and took these photos to remember how I looked. This was still the second trimester, feeling good, had lots of energy and used that energy to lots of fun things in July!

...............

Elk River Hike

One weekend in July a group of us went to Elk River Falls to hike around the waterfalls there. It's about a 40 minute drive from Moscow and absolutely beautiful! We borrowed a hiking backpack and Mark hauled Bailey all around, I was about 26 weeks pregnant and hadn't exercised since January so we were both sweatin' in up! There were three levels of waterfalls and we went to each of them, stopping at the bottom level to swim. That water was so nice to cool off in! Ahhhh. I didn't get all the way in, but Mark and the others did and jumped off the sides and had a great time. After we went to the local town and had huckleberry ice cream and shakes. Yum!
(these are all phone photos again, I love my phone!)

...............

Coeur d'Alene

Mark studied a lot this summer for the Patent Bar Exam, but he did take a few days off to do some fun things with us. The first was the Elk River Hike, and then the next day we to Coeur d'Alene for some more summer fun at the beach! Mark hadn't been there before (I had gone with friends) so that was one thing on our summer list we had to do with him. We drove up in the mid morning, got to the beach, ate lunch, played in the sand and water and the park next door. Then it was ice cream for the ride home. Bailey had a good time and again, fell fast asleep on the way home.

...............

Pioneer Day

I love that even though we don't live in Utah anymore, we still celebrated Pioneer Day! The Stake Primary put on a little Pioneer Day Activity for all the kids, they had pioneer games and activities - butter making, sack races, digging for gold, coloring sheets, food, and even a little photo booth that was adorable. Our ward was in charge of the food table, good thing I have awesome counselors while I chased Bailey all around the activities!

Friendship Square

Later that day on Pioneer Day we went to downtown Moscow for Bailey to play at the playgound and see the fountain. It actually turned out to be a good photo shoot and I decided these are her "2 Year Photos". We sure love her and all the fun things she does. There's something everyday that makes us laugh, sometimes Mark and I go to bed laughing at the funny things she says and does. We quote her to make each other laugh and we can't wait to find out what a great big sister she'll be to our new baby girl. I feel so grateful to be able to be home with her all day, we love you Bailey!

One of her favorite things to do is pretend to be a "doggie". She'll get down like this and pant until you tell her to fetch something or do a doggie trick.
